HSANS HIP-HOP TEAM VOTE TARGETS 18-35 YEAR-OLDS ACROSS AMERICA TO GET OUT THE VOTE
New York City, November 2, 2006: Russell Simmons and Dr. Benjamin Chavis, Co-Chairmen of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN), the worlds largest, non-partisan, non-profit coalition of hip-hop artists and recording industry executives, announced today that HSANs Hip-Hop Team Vote is calling upon millions of youth and young adults to go to the polls and vote across America on Tuesday, November 7, 2006.
Hip-Hop Team Vote was established in 2004 by HSAN to register, educate and mobilize millions of young voters, 18-35 years - old, in every state across the United States. Through a combination of print, radio, television, cable and Internet messaging, Hip-Hop Team Vote continues to reach the hip-hop generation about the importance of voting.
Russell Simmons, Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of HSAN, emphasized, The 2006 national elections are important, and I am encouraged to witness so many young people become engaged in the voting process. In our democracy, voting is the most American thing we can all do.
Dr. Benjamin Chavis, Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of HSAN concluded, Our Hip-Hop Team Vote initiative has picked up considerable momentum over the last two years and now we are ready once again to motivate young people to make a big difference in 2006.
