Council President Sheila Dixon Celebrates State Championship Wins of Two City High Schools
Baltimore, MD (December 13, 2006) Mayor Designee Sheila Dixon held a special ceremony today to celebrate the state championship wins of Dunbar High School and Edmondson-Westside High School. Dixon presented certificates of achievement to each player and coach and a resolution to each principal in a ceremony in the Du Burns Council Chambers.
Last Saturday, the Dunbar Poets captured the 2006 Class 1A State Title Championship with a 38-23 win over Fort Hill. This is their fourth state title.
Edmondson-Westside's 37-9 win over McDonough gave the Red Storm their first state crown. They are the 2006 Class 2A State Title Champions.
"We're so excited to have two of the best high school football teams right here in Baltimore City. The victories of Dunbar and Edmondson-Westside should be celebrated by all of Baltimore," said Dixon.
Baltimore City Public Schools System Interim CEO Dr. Charlene Cooper-Boston, parents, faculty and staff attended today's event.
